Some members of Group 3

Group 3 started on 6th November, with ten participants signed up to take the six month journey.

Though we have had all ten here with us over the last two weeks, due to seasonal illnesses, seizures and life, not all have been here at the one time.

This group ranges from their early 20’s to 60 and they come from  Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire. .

Our first week was spent getting to know each other and sharing  individual hopes and fears for being involved with the programme.

Already they are  discovering things they have in common, both due to their epilepsy and other connections, and having their own experiences echoed by others in the room.

Yesterday Sam Whitmore (Epilepsy Connections’ Training and Development Manager) took the group though an Epilepsy Awareness session, telling them about the updated classification of seizures amongst other things.

Today we visited our friends at Volunteer Glasgow to find out about ways they can become involved in community based activities, when they have built up their own skills and confidence, and tomorrow we will be having a discussion about what they want to learn and understand so that they have better self management skills from being part of Epilepsy Futures.

The induction programme will run up until 13th December, when we have a break for Christmas. Highlights include a fun relaxation  session from Sharon Miller of”Joyworks!”, visits to Project Ability and City College, and a range of in house workshops on epilepsy related topics.

Busy, busy, busy!
