Epilepsy Connections' Training and Education Programmes are recommended for anyone with a personal or professional interest in epilepsy, including:

The training aims to: Provide accurate up-to-date information about epilepsy and its management and raise awareness of the potential impact of a diagnosis of epilepsy.

Training session

Epilepsy Awareness Training

Essential information for organisations and individuals offering support to anyone with epilepsy. Upon completion participants will have a better understanding of issues that affect those living with epilepsy, and be able to offer improved support both from a clinical and psychosocial perspective.

Duration: 3.5 hours.
 
Topics include:
  • What is Epilepsy?
  • Causes of epilepsy
  • Seizure types
  • Psychosocial impact of epilepsy
  • Treatment of epilepsy
  • What to do when someone has a seizure

*Cost: £35 per participant, including Epilepsy Information Pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

Rescue Medication (Midazolam / Rectal Diazepam)

Duration: 3 hours

These emergency medications are used in community settings to reduce the need for hospitalisation and offer improved control of difficult to manage seizures. Training is essential for anyone who is required to administer these drugs and will ensure quality support for individuals requiring Rectal Diazepam or Midazolam and confidence for those administering these drugs. Epilepsy Awareness training is a prerequisite to Rescue Medication training.

*Cost: £35 per participant, including an Administration Information Pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

Rescue Medication - Refresher Sessions

 
Duration: 4 hours
 
Content:

Involves a review of epilepsy awareness and a repeat of the rescue medication training.

*Cost £35 per participant, including a Certificate of Attendance.

The Joint Epilepsy Council of UK and Ireland recommends that refresher training should take place every 2 years.

Epilepsy Connections is a member of the Joint Epilepsy Council of the UK and Ireland and our training programmes conform to the Joint Epilepsy Council guidelines on training standards.

Heart-Start Training

Duration: 3 hours

This first aid course will teach you what to do in a wide range of emergencies where prompt action may mean the difference between life and death. It is a 3 hour course offered free of charge in conjunction with Epilepsy Awareness Training.

STEPS to Excellence for Personal Success

Duration: 5 days

STEPS is a developmental programme which has earned a reputation as a powerful tool for individual and organisational advancement. For individuals, it is an opportunity to take a fresh look at their lives.

STEPS offers a simple set of tools to move individuals through a self-reinforcing spiral of building a positive identity and producing positive results.

The programme helps individuals move beyond where they have become stuck, to more fulfilling and successful lives.

This is a 5 day course suitable for any individuals within an organisation  although it is also very appropriate for individuals who want to develop on a personal level.

*Cost:  £200 per participant.  (Minimum 6 participants, venue costs not included)

All training sessions are delivered by experienced, well qualified staff using DVD presentations, group discussions, case studies and questionnaires to ensure participants gain the maximum possible benefit.

Sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of specific groups. Please do not hesitate to contact our office to discuss your individual requirements.

The minimum number of participants for each session is 5. However, if you have fewer in number than this who wish to attend, we will attempt to accommodate you. All courses can be delivered in your workplace (travel costs will be applicable) or in Epilepsy Connections’ Training Suite, which will incur an additional cost for refreshments. Child Protection Training

Duration: 4 hours

Child Protection Training is offered in recognition of the fact that many of the organisations we work with support children and young people directly or have contact with children and young people through the services they provide to other groups.

The course covers definitions of child abuse, individual and organisational roles and responsibilities, policy development and identifying concerns.

This course is offered free of charge in conjunction with Epilepsy Awareness Training and is carried out under the auspices of, and is approved by, the Child Protection Committee Glasgow.
