Training and Education Programmes

Epilepsy Connections' Training and Education Programmes are suitable for anyone with a personal or professional interest in epilepsy, including:

Training Session - Memory Workshop

Epilepsy Awareness Training

Duration:

3.5 hours.

Content:
  • Epilepsy – facts, figures and terminology.
  • What is Epilepsy.
  • Causes of epilepsy.
  • Seizure types
  • Treatment of epilepsy
  • What to do when someone has a seizure
  • Living with epilepsy.

Oral and video presentations, group discussions, case studies and questionnaires offer participants the opportunity to contribute their experiences and ensure that information needs are addressed.

Cost: £30 per participant, including Epilepsy Information Pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

Presentations can be tailored to meet your information needs, e.g.

Midazolam (Epistatus)

Duration: 3 hours

Content:

  • Indications for use
  • Administration of Buccal/Nasal Midazolam
  • Health and Safety issues
  • Video: “How to give Midazolam”
  • Practical and theoretical assessment

Cost: £30 per participant, including an Administration Information Pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

Rectal Diazepam

Duration: 3 hours

Content:

  • Indications for use
  • The administration of rectal diazepam
  • Health and Safety Issues
  • Video: “Rectal Diazepam”
  • Practical and theoretical assessment.

Cost £30 per participant, including an Administration Information Pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

Rescue Medication - Refresher Sessions

Duration:

3 hours

Content:

As above, including review of epilepsy awareness.

Cost £30 per participant, including a Certificate of Attendance.

The minimum number of participants for each of the sessions is 5. However, if you have fewer numbers than this who wish to attend, we will try to accommodate you.

Travel expenses will be charged at a rate of 40p per mile.

Nursing Home Project

This new course is designed to meet the specific needs of trained nursing staff working in residential settings.

Objectives:
  • To update epilepsy knowledge
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of care planning documentation in relation to epilepsy
  • To provide and promote good practice guidelines in epilepsy care management

Heart-Start Training

A Heart-Start course will teach you what to do in a wide range of emergencies where the prompt action of a bystander may mean the difference between life and death.

Offered free of charge in conjunction with Epilepsy Awareness Training.

Epilepsy Connections is a member of the Joint Epilepsy Council and our training programmes conform to Joint Epilepsy Council guidelines on training standards.

All courses can be delivered in your workplace or in Epilepsy Connections’ offices, which will incur an additional cost for refreshments. Phone the office for details.

In addition to the participant costs shown, travel expenses will be charged at a rate of 40p per mile.
